When Reality Breaks Open

This space was born from lived experience around psychosis, caregiving, and systems of mental health care, especially the emotional and spiritual impact of witnessing someone you love move through altered states of reality. It doesn’t reduce those experiences to labels alone but asks what it means when perception itself becomes fluid, and how families survive and make sense of that.It also explores the idea that moments of breakdown (whether psychological, emotional, or existential) can feel like destruction, but can also become thresholds of transformation. Not in a simplistic “everything happens for a reason” way, but in the more complicated truth that people are often changed at the deepest level by what they survive. At the same time, it’s about the caregiver’s journey: the exhaustion, helplessness, love, fear, advocacy, grief, and the strange spiritual edge that can emerge when you’re standing beside someone in a reality no one else fully sees. And underneath all of it is a central question:
What is reality really, when the mind, the heart, and experience itself stop agreeing? And how do we stay human inside that uncertainty?

Journey Through the Trilogy

When Reality Breaks Open is a book trilogy about what happens when life fractures. It explores psychosis, caregiving, and transformation through a deeply human and spiritual lens, asking how we love, survive, and find meaning inside moments of profound rupture.

Author Bio

Candace Rose Eberle is a mother, creator, and writer sharing from over two decades of lived experience navigating her son’s journey through severe mental health challenges, including psychosis. Her work is shaped by the realities of long-term caregiving, advocacy, and learning how to stay present through systems, crises, and moments that defy easy explanation. Alongside this, she explores meaning through a spiritual and intuitive lens, including mystic and shamanic frameworks that help her process experience, find grounding, and stay connected to compassion. She writes and creates at the intersection of lived experience and inner inquiry - where mental health, perception, love, and mystery meet. Her intention is not to explain or define others’ experiences, but to share what it has been like to walk this path and remain in relationship through it.This space holds fragments of that journey: reflections, music, and expression shaped by both the visible world and the inner one.

Holding the Vision

This space holds a vision I am still walking toward - not as a fixed outcome, but as an evolving possibility shaped by lived experience, necessity, and care.It is the vision of a supportive, humane space for people like my son and those navigating altered states of mind, including psychosis, who often fall through the gaps of existing systems.I imagine something like a sanctuary village or living environment where people are not rushed, pathologized, or discarded, but met with steadiness, dignity, and relational presence. A place where safety is held through connection, structure, and compassion rather than control. This vision is sometimes described in different ways : Soul Sanctuary, Soteria-inspired care, or a small village model of support. At its core, it is about creating environments where people can stabilize, be seen as whole, and not lose their humanity in the process of their experience.I do not claim to have this fully formed or realized. I am simply in relationship with the vision - learning, listening, and taking the next steps that are available. This is an offering of direction, not certainty. A living inquiry into what becomes possible when care is reimagined.
